Setting Limits in the Classroom – How to Move Beyond the Dance of Discipline in Today’s Classroom

by Robert J. Mackenzie, Ed.D.

This is another great resource for educators looking for support on how to manage students.

We know you’ll enjoy this series presented by the Special Event section on PORTAL.

Join Dr. Kendall Zoller and his associate Claudette Landry as they share simple, yet highly effective strategies for classroom management.  The five podcasts in this series provide straightforward suggestions and tools on how to influence student behavior nonverbally so there is more time in the day to teach!  Dr. Zoller’s research found that the use of these skills increased teaching time by almost two weeks.

In addition, research from the University of Houston found that when nonverbal classroom management techniques are effectively used referrals decrease, attendance increases, teachers have more energy at the end of the day, and the classroom environment is more positive.

Nonverbal patterns are teacher behaviors that supplement any classroom management system and can enhance the effectiveness of classroom routines and procedures.

These patterns can influence student thinking, student achievement, attention, and the increased rate of transfer from short term memory to long term memory.
